Probably the best audience recording of the entire European leg of the 1995 tour
and an excellent show to conclude one of the most inspired tours of the man's
career. Sourced from the class 'Slave' release this
4DaFunk 2cd comes under the subtitle "4DF's Remastered Series" and as with other
boots from this series there is a fair amount of work gone into this which is
immediately obvious.
The recording was already of extremely high quality with barely a murmur from
the audience to be heard for large sections of the show. Prince's microphone
level is to the fore and very powerful, and whilst this is a major plus, his
guitar is very low in the mix and in parts of the show it is sorely missed
(Endorphinmachine is a prime example). They balance themselves out though and I
really have no complaint about the quality of the recording. One slight bitch I
had regarding the previous 'Slave' release was the show faded out prior to
'(Lemme See Your Body) Get Loose' before fading back in again, which slightly
jarred the flow of the concert - thankfully this has been rectified here and had
I not been aware of it from the previous release I would never have picked up on
it as 4DaFunk have flawlessly edited it out. The show itself contains nothing
out of the ordinary and the addition of 'Orgasm' is perhaps the only slight
exception (although this was played at a number of other European shows). It is
one of the longer shows of the tour due in part to an extremely lengthy 15
minute version of 'Get Wild' which incorporates various lines lifted from 'The
Exodus Has Begun'.
Still, Prince's performance and delivery make this one of the best shows from
the tour in my opinion. This release also contains 17 minutes from the 30th
March soundcheck and a further 5 minutes from the 29th March soundcheck. The
quality is a little lacking in comparison to the main show, however it is vastly
superior to the quality on the original release. Overall this is a very
impressive release and a major improvement on the best circulating audience
recording from the tour.
