I was VERY excited to see this release. The New Morning show has been released on a number of disc and lps (see below). It is the Rupert's show that excited me as it has only been on one one release, Cruper Ts 87 (The Sex Of IT), which has the tracks are so chopped up that it is difficult to enjoy. It is great to get a good copy of this hometown Sign O The Times one-off. It has been circulating on tape amoungst collector complete, but I have never found a clean copy of it. The first disc of this release is excellent it contains the entire New Morning show and the first six songs from the Ruperts show. The New Morning show, like most releases of it, has a bit too much on the high end. The sound is a slightly tinny. The souind quality on the Rupert's show is pretty good. It is a nice audience. It is not a full range, but listenable and better than what tapes I've heard. The second disc has the remaining songs from the Rupert's show and, on the release I heard, there is a problem with the pressing. There is a a cycling drop out on the entire disc whichs makes it unlistenable. I was very surprised to hear this as Moonraker/Thunderball releases are generally of such high quality. I have been told that this second disc is being redone. So, if you see this release listen to the second disc. It is most obvious in the middle of the disc. If it sounds fine, get it.

(UPDATE) I have finally heard a copy of the fixed second discs and it is great! Worth getting.. but listen to the second disc first.

Mike's Comments (rates this release 5/5.0)
These 2 shows are classics so don't be put off by the fact that both of them are audience recordings. The Paris aftershow is very loose and funky, one of the best aftershows he has ever played. The Ruperts concert is a one-off with many changes to the standard Sign "O" the times show performed earlier in the year in Europe. It features the one and only performance of 'The sex of it' and it's a great, frenzied version. Also 'Mother popcorn' and 'Love and happiness' are both excellent, and Prince makes them sound like his own. 'I want to take you higher' has been played quite a lot during the 1990s and beyond but here it sounds much less tired and Prince has a lot of fun with it. A great bootleg.
