Comments Deane's Comments(rates this release 5/5.0) City Lights is
an amazing document of early Prince performances. Ranging from an Opening Act
for the Rick James Tour (the earliest known live recording of Prince), through
the Dirty Mind, Controversy and 1999 tours. Ending with the Purple Rain tour and
a classic Parade show. This is a must have set. They come together in a nice box
or they are also circulating seperately.
Dale's Comments(rates this release 4.75/5.0) This
set is a necessity in every collection. Documenting every tour up through
Parade, City Lights has something for everyone that listens to Prince music. The
Atlanta 85show is a personal favorite of mine, with a funky 24 minute version of
Baby I'm A Star followed by an 18 1/2 minute rendition of Purple Rain. No matter
what your favorite early era Prince music is, I gaurantee you will find a
favorite show somewhere in this marvelous set. The packaging for the discs is
wonderful with one or two exceptions where the cover art looks atrocious, but
they did put a lot of effort into making the packaging look somewhat official.
Having all these early shows in EX soundboard quality makes this release a true
treasure.
